A systems problem at Edinburgh's ATC meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, ongoing issues are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
