Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
