Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
